Various events were organized in Tokyo on Sept. 8 to celebrate the International Olympic Committee’s selection of Japan’s capital to host the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. This will be first time since 1964 for the Games to be held in Tokyo. The Olympics and Paralympics are scheduled to be held from July 24 to Aug. 9 and from Aug. 25 to Sept. 6, 2020, respectively, under the theme “Discover Tomorrow.”

“Thank you” in both English and Japanese is spelled out by a crowd gathered in front of Tokyo City Hall on Sep. 8th.



For Japanese people, this news was really good news…We have still been getting together to help someone in trouble of the Disaster recovery from the Tohoku Earthquake, and we believe that Japan is going to get recover, but we know this is a job that requires patience for all Japanese. This decision of host city for 2020 Olympics surely encouraged us. Thank you everyone in the world…



An Olympic flame burns at the National Stadium in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo. The stadium was the main venue for the 1964 Summer Olympics, and the flame was lit again to celebrate the selection of the capital as the site for the 2020 Games. The stadium will also be used for the 2020 Games after a major renovation.
